
Adenovirus, which causes mild cold and flu-like symptoms, has been linked to blood clots and low platelet levels in the body. This marks the first connection between the respiratory virus and the anti-platelet factor 4 (PF4) disorder. The disorder is a condition that occurs when a person's immune system makes antibodies against platelet factor-4, causing rapid platelet removal in the bloodstream and blood clotting.
